Hepatitis B is an infectious disease that affects liver function, caused by the Hepatitis B virus (HBV). It can lead to chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, and liver cancer. This disease remains a significant public health concern worldwide, including in Thailand.

Transmission of Hepatitis B
Hepatitis B can be transmitted through:
  • Contact with blood or bodily fluids such as sharing needles or exposure to infected blood
  • Sexual contact
  • Mother-to-child transmission during childbirth
Individuals infected with Hepatitis B may not exhibit symptoms initially. When symptoms occur, they may include:
  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Loss of appetite and weight loss
  • Dark-colored urine
  • Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
  • Abdominal pain and vomiting
  • Vaccination against Hepatitis B, the most effective preventive measure
  • Use condoms during sexual activity
  • Avoid sharing needles
  • Regular health check-ups to detect and prevent early-stage infections
Chronic Hepatitis B infections may require antiviral medications to suppress the virus and reduce the risk of liver cirrhosis or liver cancer. Proper monitoring and healthcare management are essential to maintaining liver health and preventing complications.
