To ensure the provision of the most comprehensive care for wounds, the Holistic Wound Care Center utilizes the following latest technologies in the field:
- Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
- Improves tissue and blood vessel production
- Improves oxygen-rich circulation to areas of the body susceptible to decreased circulation, thus accelerating the wound healing process
- Improves white blood cell function in terms of bacteria management
- Helps to reduce and fight off certain types of infection
- Helps to reduce tissue inflammation
- Phototherapy: Healite II LED
Healite II LED Phototherapy (yellow) is a form of laser therapy used in the treatment of wounds. The specially designed laser beams treat wounds by reducing tissue swelling and inflammation, as well as improving circulation and increasing collagen production to accelerate the healing process.
- 3D Bi-plane Imaging with Carbon Dioxide Injector
This technology is used in operating theaters to provide surgeons with a clear image of the blood vessel system in all directions in cases aimed at reducing disruption to those systems. Additionally, CO
2 contrast agent is used instead of traditional radiation contrast agent as it is non-toxic and therefore less damaging.
- Electrohydraulic Shockwave Therapy
By increasing new tissue and blood vessel production in and around the wound being treated, this form of therapy is applied to accelerate the healing process.
- Negative Pressure Wound Therapy
A form of closed-circuit therapy that utilizes negative pressure, this device extracts any blood or secretions through a specially designed pipe inserted into the wound. In this way, the therapy aids and accelerates the healing process.
- Transcutaneous Oxygen Monitoring Equipment (TCOM)
This equipment enables accurate monitoring of oxygen (O
2) levels in the blood vessels delivering oxygen to the skin layer. It involves the use of electrodes placed on the relevant areas of the patient’s body to inform medical staff of the body’s oxygen transfer capabilities to the wounded locations.
In addition to technologies used to accelerate the wound healing process, there are also materials that can be used to dress wounds which offer similar results, such as alginate dressing, hydrocolloid dressing, foam dressing, and hemoglobin spray. The medical staff and specialist nursing team are responsible for selecting and applying the most appropriate materials for each case.
This form of therapy involves introducing lucilia sericata maggots into the wound to eat dead tissue. Maggots are used because they produce enzymes that digest the dead tissue found in wounds, while they also ingest any liquids and dead tissue into their bodies. The maggots used are bred especially for this purpose and referred to as bio maggots due to the benefits they offer in terms of surface wound management, thus accelerating the healing process.
