FROM HIS FARM TO YOUR TABLE: THE SCIENTIST FARMER
BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN THE GROWER AND THE CONSUMER
Mr. Bramot found farming through his love of science, and quickly realized that the way of life his parents and grandparents took for granted was becoming more and more obsolete. Local sustainable food agriculture might be a buzz-phrase, but very few people actually think about it in terms of their daily food decision. This is what Mr. Bramot hopes to change, so that the future generation will have access to fresh, organically grown produce just like he has always known.
WORKING TO CHANGE THE FUTURE OF FARMING IN THAILAND
Although his family have always worked in agriculture, what they wanted for him was a career in civil service. He learned quickly the importance of following your own dreams, even when that dream leads you to the incredibly difficult work of farming. “Farming is not an easy job,” he says, “but what other people see as difficult just looks like opportunity to me.” It is with this attitude, and his fierce commitment to the future of farming, that he continues to positively impact his local community. Most of the time, that goal is simply achieved by providing his customers with fresh and responsibly grown fruits and vegetables. He brings his produce to the Bangkok Farmer’s Market because he wants to be directly involved with helping city people connect with the farmers who work tirelessly to provide food.
GROWING HOPE FOR THE FUTURE
When asked how he feels about the future, Mr. Bramot turns somber, because he can see that the farming way of life is being lost. People are too far disconnected from their food source, opting instead for whatever is easily available. That’s why he sees it as his mission to pass on the knowledge of local sustainable food agriculture, and an understanding of the farmer’s contribution to society onto future generations.
