Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) plays a pathogenic role in a variety of disease states, including infectious mononucleosis, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, Burkitt lymphoma, B-cell lymphomas in patients with congenital or acquired immunodeficiency, and some cases of classical Hodgkin lymphoma.
