Useful For (ประโยชน์การทดสอบ):
Standard screening test for suspected plasma cell dyscrasias (eg. multiple myeloma, primary amyloidosis) although it is not recommended as the stand-alone test for this purpose.

In particular, detects Bence Jones proteins (kappa [κ] and lambda [λ] monoclonal light chains) which are rapidly excreted in the urine and may be missed on serum protein electrophoresis (SPEP).

Assists in the evaluation of proteinuria.

Monitors response to treatment for monoclonal gammopathies

Clinical Information (ข้อมูลทางคลินิก):
Urine protein electrophoresis (UPEP) separates urine globulins into five basic groups (albumin, alpha1, alpha2, beta, and gamma globulins) based upon net molecular charge and size when exposed to an electric current. Individual components are identified based on known rates of protein migration. The protein present is quantified. Analysis of the electrophoresis patterns can help identify medical conditions such as plasma cell dyscrasia as well as patterns of renal dysfunction
