The DAISY Award

The DAISY Award is a program to celebrate excellence in nursing.  The name comes from the acronym Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem. It was created by the DAISY Foundation in memory of  J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33.

During the time of medical treatment, Patrick and his family was experienced what they considered to be the best in nursing care.  To commemorate Patrick, and show the family’s profound appreciation of the nurses and their compassionate and skilful care, they created this special DAISY Award.

The Foundation supports research along with services for families and patients. It recognizes the compassion and clinical skills of nurses with programs like the DAISY Award. Bumrungrad International hospital has had 3 nurses be honoured by the DAISY Award in 2011.
