Bumrungrad Launches Its Genomic Medicine Institute

“Prevention is better than cure” is a phrase commonly used by doctors, nurses and even mums and dads. There can be no doubt that it is better to prevent an illness from occurring than it is to treat it after it has already occurred. Thanks to developments in genomic medicine, it is now possible to look at a patient’s genetic code to help determine their risk of developing various diseases, and plan out what to do to avoid those diseases.

Bumrungrad recently launched its Genomic Medicine Institute, under the concept of “Design your healthy lifestyle with your genes” — with opening remarks at the event by Mrs. Artirat Charukitpipat, CEO at Bumrungrad International Hospital, and Dr. Palita Lungchukiet, CEO at Bumrungrad Genomic Medicine Institute, along with the medical genetics team to share knowledge of preventive and personalized medicine with genetic testing. At the event, guests were also able to have personalized perfume made by an on-site ERB perfume mixologist. The event was held on 6 February 2023 at the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok.

At Bumrungrad, next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology is utilized to analyze the decoding of many genes simultaneously. This process is fast and accurate. Each test is processed at our world-class certified hospital laboratory. Once a genetic medicine specialist accurately interprets a patient’s results, if needed, specialists in all related fields will provide advice or consultation on what steps to take next.
