On August 16th, 2024, Bumrungrad International Hospital and the Bumrungrad Hospital Foundation together with VP Mosquito Control Co., Ltd., a distributor of Biogents products (the world’s leader in mosquito eradication technology), donated BG-Mosquitaire CO2 outdoor mosquito traps to the Preschool Child Development Center in the Makkasan area of Bangkok as part of the Mosquito-Free Project.

The Bumrungrad Hospital Foundation is a charitable organization that has carried out public benefit and charitable activities for over 34 years. The foundation aims to help people in various underprivileged communities across the country by providing access to quality healthcare.

Bumrungrad is aware of the dangers that can occur during the rainy season. One such danger is dengue fever, which is transmitted through Aedes mosquitoes. Dengue, considered one of the most contagious diseases, was found to be a great risk to children in one community near Bumrungrad International Hospital. The Preschool Child Development Center, which is located in the Makkasan area of Bangkok, is surrounded by rivers, a breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes. The Bumrungrad Foundation decided to act. So through a project developed called the “Mosquito-Free Project,” with assistance from VP Mosquito Control Co., Ltd., Bumrungrad went to the school to provide mosquito traps to help reduce the risk of dengue fever infection.

Khun Napas Paorohitya, Chief Marketing Officer of Bumrungrad International Hospital, said, “As a hospital, we not only promote good health and disease prevention, we also demonstrate social responsibility. And we do so by doing what we are good at — providing quality healthcare.”

Khun Napas continued, “Our organization aims to support sustainability for society. This project aims to take care of people’s health holistically. It also aims to help with building relationships between the organization and the community. We wish to promote a positive change in society; we wish to promote good health and a good quality of life among our youth, who are the ones who will be driving our economy forward in the future.”

BG-Mosquitaire CO2 was developed through public research at the University of Regensburg in Germany. The technology has been widely known among entomology researchers around the world for over 16 years. It works by using artificial airflows that imitate human breathing to lure mosquitoes into the trap. It works on any species of mosquito including the Aedes mosquitoes. It is also completely environmentally friendly.

Bumrungrad International Hospital and the Bumrungrad Hospital Foundation wholeheartedly support the continuation of CSR activities, believing that CSR activities play a great role in societal and environmental development.

Khun Napas concluded with, “We hope that the Mosquito-Free Project will help inspire the public and other organizations to do more good things for the community. Doing CSR activities is “profitable.” By that I mean organizations will gain satisfaction by doing good things for society.”
