Hepatitis E

Hepatitis E is a foodborne and waterborne infection caused by the Hepatitis E virus. It is most commonly found in developing countries with poor sanitation systems. While the disease typically causes acute liver inflammation, it can be severe in pregnant women, especially during the third trimester.

Causes of Hepatitis E
Hepatitis E is transmitted through the consumption of food and drinking water contaminated with feces containing the virus.
 
  • Pale-colored stool
  • Dark-colored urine
  • Yellowing of the skin and eyes
  • Fatigue, sometimes accompanied by fever
  • Nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite
  • Abdominal pain
  • Travelers to developing countries, particularly pregnant women
  • Drink boiled or properly treated water
  • Consume well-cooked food and wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating
