Visante OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)

The Visante OCT (optical coherence tomography) provides high-resolution images of the anterior (front) segment of the eye, which includes the cornea, the aqueous humour, the iris, and the anterior and posterior chambers.

Purpose
Optical coherence tomography may be done to assess pathology and type of glaucoma (open-angle or angle-closure) or inspect the relationship between the aqueous humour and its drainage angle.

No special preparation is necessary as the procedure is similar to a photograph being taken. No tools come into contact with the eye and no eye drops are required.

  1. Please sit comfortably during the procedure.
  2. The procedure takes just a few seconds. You will need to look straight ahead until the image is captured or until the officer tells you that you can move. The entire process takes approximately three to five minutes.
It provides information used to assess your risk of glaucoma as well as allows the doctor to measure the thickness of the cornea and the space in front of the iris.

What if this procedure is not performed?
The doctor cannot evaluate pathology and the type of glaucoma (open-angle or angle-closure) or inspect the relationship between the aqueous humour and its drainage angle.
