Mr. Chai Sophonpanich, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Bumrungrad International Hospital, was recently named “Knight Grand Cordon (Special Class) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant”

Mr. Chai Sophonpanich, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Bumrungrad International Hospital, was recently named “Knight Grand Cordon (Special Class) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant” and “Knight Grand Cross (First Class) of the Most Admirable Order of the Diredgunabhorn.” These prestigious honors were bestowed upon him for the occasion of His Majesty the King’s 72nd birthday, which was on July 28th, 2024.

For Mr. Chai’s ongoing contribution and service as a member of the University Council at Mae Fah Luang University, where he has continuously worked towards the university’s improvement in the areas of education, religion, society, and even the public at large, the university submitted Mr. Chai’s name for the honors.

Mr. Chai Sophonpanich founded the Bumrungrad Hospital Foundation in May of 1990. The objective of the foundation was to carry out charitable and public welfare activities and services.

Over the years, several projects have been launched through the foundation including the “Rak Jai Thai” program, which provides no-cost heart surgeries to underprivileged children with congenital heart defects; the “Bumrungrad Mobile Clinic,” which visits people in underprivileged communities and provides quality primary care; and the “Phum Panya Chao Ban” project, which helps people from distant underprivileged provinces earn income by having them manufacture goods that will be purchased and used by the hospital. 

These initiatives reflect Mr. Chai’s belief that “Businesses should not solely focus on profit but must also contribute to society.”
