When Should You See a Doctor?

  • You have 4 or more headaches per month.
  • Your headaches persist and become increasingly severe.
  • You have chronic headaches to the point you take painkillers daily or almost daily.
  • You have a headache when doing physical activity, coughing, or bending over.
  • You have a chronic headache on one side of your head without it changing sides.
  • You have a history of headaches and there is a change in the severity of the pain.
  • You have chronic headaches that occur after age 50.
  • You have a severe, sudden headache along with symptoms such as confusion, fainting, nausea or vomiting, high fever, numbness or weakness on one side of the body, neck stiffness, or abnormalities in vision, speech, or gait.
