How Can You Tell if You Have Fatty Liver?
When people say they have fatty liver, it may or may not be accurate. To definitively diagnose fatty liver, a liver tissue sample is required, usually obtained through a needle inserted into the liver and examined under a microscope. However, this method is painful, risky, and costly.
At Bumrungrad, we use a three-part approach: ultrasound, FibroScan, and blood tests. Each test serves a different purpose:
- The ultrasound gives an overview of the liver's structure, like seeing its shadow.
- FibroScan measures liver elasticity, helping detect stiffness, scarring, and fatty deposits.
- Blood tests assess liver function, revealing what might be leaking from the liver.
These three tests work together to give a clear picture of your liver’s health. If you’re curious about your liver, visit our Digestive Disease Center. Our Liver Health program can help assess your liver condition, and we’re ready to support your liver health.
